Survey Results! ✅ + My Favorite Potluck Desserts

Hi again Reader,

Last month, I asked you to tell me how you feel about baking and about this newsletter. And wow, you delivered! A massive THANK YOU to all of you who dished out their thoughts. Your feedback is gold ⭐️

From your love of cookies and vintage recipes to your not-so-secret wish that a fairy godmother do your dishes (same), the responses were honest, fun, and super helpful.

Turns out, we’re all looking for the same thing: recipes that work (extra points if they're easy and don't involve seven bowls), stories that matter, a little less chaos in the kitchen.

✍🏻 The results

You bake because you love it — to relax, to share with others, or because the smell of cookies makes everything better.

While your love for baking cookies, bars, cakes and vintage desserts (in that order) is no surprise, I was slightly caught off-guard by your enthusiasm for simple weekday meals! Noted, and perhaps a new chapter for me to explore.

Time and cleanup are your nemesis (same 🙋🏻‍♀️), you want good results without wrecking the kitchen.

You’re not interested in complicated. Quick prep, no fancy tools, pantry-friendly ingredients. And skip the elaborate decorations. Are we soul mates?

You're hungry for more classic old-fashioned recipes and brilliant tips & tricks for common baking problems. Right up my alley, thank you very much.

And the #1 request for the newsletter? Ingredient substitution guides! Sounds like you want to bake without a treasure hunt for marcona almonds or other specialy ingredients. Amen.

You crave more quick recipes, but are willing to put in the time for special recipes and occasions. You also like themed series. So, traditional vintage, easy when possible, with context, and clarity. I'm all for it.

👇🏻 What’s coming soon to your inbox

  • Foolproof recipes you can count on (even on a Tuesday).
  • Vintage Bites, old-fashioned, traditional recipes with the quick stories behind them.
  • Real-life baking tips, weekly in your inbox.
  • Make-ahead and low-mess desserts.
  • Monthly themed series, like Foolproof Fall Bakes, Small Batch Thanksgiving or the Vintage Summer Recipe series that I sent last week.
  • Shorter, clearer newsletters (because attention spans are a thing) for some topics. Maybe a bi-weekly recap so you get all the info in one email.

✅ I'm already working on these new formats and content to add to our regular schedule, so if you’re nodding along, good. If not, hit reply and tell me what I missed. This is an ongoing kitchen conversation 💬

And because we're here for the food

Here are my top 5 bar recipes I take everywhere: potlucks, cookouts, friends' houses for a cup of coffee, you name it.

Not your usual lemon bars.

Brownies with a surprise ingredient: these or these, depending on the crowd.

The best and easiest fudge. Lately, I've been adding lightly toasted pistachios and almonds and a touch of sea salt, and they're a hit!

Another crowd-pleasing fudge that flies off the serving plate!

Several glazed lemon brownies. One is bitten. Stack of peanut butter bars with fudge topping.

If you make a recipe from the blog and you like it, please rate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and leave a comment. I sincerely appreciate your feedback 🥰
